TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (NPI) (Automotive): Launching autonomous vehicle hardware from prototype through production-validated manufacturing lines with an accent on APQP, PPAP, assembly process control, and supplier manufacturing readiness. What you will do
- Drive APQP program management at contract manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers through Start of Production and PPAP completion.
- Provide DFM and DFA feedback and oversee the transition from prototype hardware to a production-validated manufacturing line.
- Manage mechanical assembly, testing, integration, sensor calibration, and special-characteristic process controls for sensors, compute, and actuation systems.
- Develop and validate EOL testers, calibration routines, tooling, gauges, PFMEAs, process flows, control plans, and work instructions.
- Lead process verification, Run-at-Rate studies, metrology qualification, MSA, and Gage R&R activities.
- Lead 8D and RCCA investigations for assembly failures and update manufacturing controls using field-quality and OEM feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
- Experience launching automotive or high-tech hardware at Tier 1 or contract manufacturers using structured quality gates.
- Advanced APQP and PPAP expertise, including control plans, process flows, Gage R&R, Cpk, and the transition from Design Verification to Process Verification.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, PLM tools, document revision control, Engineering Change Orders, and BOM accuracy management.
- Expertise in GD&T, metrology, CMM, OMM, vision systems, precision torque, thermal interface material dispensing, and sensor calibration.
- Mastery of 8D and RCCA problem-solving methods and experience presenting manufacturing readiness using production data.
Nice to have
- Automotive, aerospace, autonomous vehicle, or EV industry experience.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-610 knowledge.
- Experience with robotic workcells or automated assembly systems.
- CQE or Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification.
