Frontend Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco, United States

Salary: $175,000–$240,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Architect, design, implement, and optimize frontend features for a scientific discovery platform.
• Translate complex AI-driven scientific workflows into intuitive user experiences.
• Collaborate with product and research teams to anticipate user needs and define features.
• Develop and maintain a modular design system and reusable component libraries.
• Optimize rendering performance, asset loading, and interaction responsiveness across browsers and devices.
• Integrate real-time data visualizations and dynamic interfaces, conduct code reviews, and contribute to frontend architecture decisions.

Requirements

• Typically 4–8 years of professional frontend engineering experience, including work on performant, complex, data visualization-heavy web applications.
• Deep experience with JavaScript, React, and TypeScript.
• Strong understanding of browser rendering pipelines, performance profiling, and optimization techniques.
• Experience with real-time data handling such as WebSockets or GraphQL subscriptions.
• Experience with interactive visualizations such as D3, Deck.gl, or Three.js.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards and responsive design principles.

Nice to have

• Experience with scientific data visualization, computational biology, or AI/ML tools.
• Familiarity with backend integration patterns for high-throughput data pipelines.
