Electrical Panel Design Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid work structure. Ability to travel 15% of the time and support installation and commissioning at customer sites as needed.

Salary: $127,000–$165,000 per year, plus stock and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and validate industrial control panels and electrical systems for automation platforms.
• Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
• Perform short-circuit current rating calculations and select control-system components.
• Design motor control systems, emergency-stop circuits, safety circuits, and power-distribution architectures.
• Collaborate with PLC software engineers, contract panel shops, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Support panel builds, certification and labeling, system bring-up, commissioning, deployment, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, plus 5+ years of professional experience.
• Strong working knowledge of UL 508A, NFPA 79, and NEC (NFPA 70).
• Experience with SCCR calculations, protection coordination, control-panel design, and industrial machine wiring.
• Experience with motor control systems, PLC hardware platforms, and industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet, Modbus, and CAN.
• Knowledge of functional safety according to ISO 13849 or IEC 62061, and proficiency with SolidWorks Electrical or similar CAD tools.
• Strong troubleshooting, written and verbal communication skills, and practical industrial electrical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in a UL 508A panel shop and with UL field evaluations and inspection processes.
• Experience with high-volume manufacturing, scalable panel production, robots, or automated industrial systems.
• Knowledge of IEC 61508 and experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
