Principal Electrical Engineer (Hardware Design)

Location: Los Angeles, California; based in Hawthorne with full-time onsite presence five days a week

Salary: $160,000–$300,000 per year, plus stock options

What you will do

• Design, develop, and test reliable electronics and compute systems for complex autonomous manufacturing systems.
• Drive electrical architecture, product requirements, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and testing.
• Serve as the senior engineer and technical lead, owning technical direction, schedules, execution quality, and continuous innovation.
• Debug unexpected system behavior using laboratory test equipment, custom instrumentation, and dedicated test setups.
• Model and simulate circuit designs to analyze performance and guide design decisions.
• Collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines throughout the full product lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar engineering discipline.
• 15+ years of professional experience designing and delivering complex electrical hardware.
• Broad electrical engineering knowledge and strong fundamentals, with a first-principles approach to problem solving.
• Experience serving as a technical lead and system owner, accountable for architecture, execution quality, and technical outcomes across the full lifecycle.
• Ability to work onsite five days per week in Hawthorne, California.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in electrical engineering.
• Experience with FPGA, GPU, and mixed-architecture compute systems.
• Experience with sensors, high-speed cameras, imaging, data acquisition, motion systems, scanning systems, optomechanical assemblies, or complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience with embedded microcontrollers and firmware.
• Familiarity with industrial automation and robotics.
