TL;DR
Launch Safety Software Intern (C++/Python): Developing software tools, sensor integrations, and range surveillance and flight safety systems for launch operations with an accent on automation, external data feeds, and software verification. Focus on building a common operating picture from sensor data, testing safety-critical software, and supporting real aerospace missions.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand office roles require background and nationality checks for access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data.

What you will do
- Develop software tools and scripts to automate processes and interface with sensors and applications.
- Design and develop range surveillance and flight safety software by integrating external sensors and data feeds into a common operating picture.
- Establish and execute software development testing, validation, and verification processes.
- Track work in progress, report delivery status, and collaborate with engineers across departments.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas to launch safety operations.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of C++ and Python.
- Experience with Git or similar source code management tools and JIRA or a similar issue tracker.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- For New Zealand office roles, nationality eligibility may be required under ITAR regulations; eligible nationalities include Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, European Union, or NATO countries, subject to restrictions.
Nice to have
- Interest in maritime or aviation systems, including navigation processors, NMEA, AIS, ADS-B, or geospatial datasets.
- Previous software development internship or project experience.
- Experience with sensor integration, data processing, or flight safety systems.
