TL;DR
Licensing Engineers for New Reactor Projects (I-VI) (Nuclear Engineering): Supporting licensing applications and regulatory engagements with the U.S. NRC for advanced high-temperature gas-cooled reactor projects with an accent on environmental licensing, nuclear safety, security, emergency planning, safeguards, and regulatory compliance. Focus on developing Safety Analysis Reports, regulatory white papers, licensing plans, and responses to Requests for Additional Information.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States; 4 days in office. Standard hours are 8:00am–5:00pm Eastern Time, Monday–Friday.

Salary: $81,314–$135,524 for Level I; $88,725–$147,875 for Level II; $103,575–$172,625 for Level III; $143,550–$183,425 for Level IV; $165,000–$190,000 for Level V; $190,000–$215,000 for Level VI. Base salary only.

What you will do

  • Support reactor licensing activities, including certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses, while tracking milestones with the U.S. NRC.
  • Coordinate with licensing, engineering, program and project management, supply chain, and procurement teams.
  • Develop technical content for Safety Analysis Reports and licensing applications.
  • Support regulatory engagement plans, audits, responses to Requests for Additional Information, and licensing strategies.
  • Prepare regulatory white papers, technical reports, licensing topical reports, plans, and budgets.
  • Integrate safety culture and quality requirements into licensing processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field, such as mechanical, nuclear, chemical, or electrical engineering, environmental science, physics, or chemistry.
  • Experience with direct written or verbal interactions with the U.S. NRC.
  • Understanding of nuclear regulatory processes in the United States.
  • Project management experience involving schedules, team coordination, and technical regulatory content.
  • Level II typically requires 2 years of relevant licensing experience; Level III 5 years; Level IV 10 years; Level V 15 years; Level VI 20 years.

Nice to have

  • Experience preparing or reviewing U.S. NRC construction permit and operating license applications.
  • Knowledge of high-temperature gas reactor or first-of-a-kind nuclear technologies.
  • Knowledge of small modular reactor technical and licensing considerations.
  • Knowledge of U.S. NRC or U.S. DOE regulatory requirements for reactor licensing.
