Thermal Engineer (II or III)

Location: Fully onsite in Centennial, Colorado, or Long Beach, California. U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility for required ITAR authorizations is required. Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance is also required.

Base salary: $85,000–$135,000 for Thermal Engineer II; $105,000–$170,000 for Thermal Engineer III.

What you will do

• Develop thermal designs for new spacecraft in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, software, and automation engineers.
• Perform integrated thermal analysis across design reference missions to size heaters and radiators and select external coatings.
• Design detailed piece-part and assembly drawings for heaters, MLI, and other thermal control components.
• Conduct board-level thermal analysis and coordinate thermal interfaces between subsystems.
• Support thermal vacuum and thermal cycle testing, including model correlation.
• Support on-orbit spacecraft operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in space thermal analysis and design.
• Demonstrated excellence in thermal vacuum testing and model correlation.
• Experience with spacecraft subcomponents such as optical payloads, mechanisms, and structures.
• Experience with Thermal Desktop and SolidWorks.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in aerospace engineering.
• Ability to work autonomously with limited requirements or management oversight.
• At least 5 years of experience developing and producing space thermal systems.
