Thermal Hardware and Test Engineer II (Aerospace): Designing, fabricating, integrating, and testing thermal and fluid hardware for ground and spacecraft systems with an accent on active and passive thermal control, thermal analysis, instrumentation, and thermal vacuum testing. Focus on anchoring thermal models to test data, building DAQ-enabled test infrastructure, diagnosing anomalies, and optimizing equipment reliability.
Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Candidates must be U.S. persons authorized to work in the United States and permitted to access export-controlled technology.
Salary: $119,543–$152,749 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do
- Drive end-to-end development of thermal hardware and test infrastructure from concept and design through fabrication, integration, validation, and maintenance.
- Develop active and passive thermal control systems for payloads and spacecraft, including heat pipes, pumped fluid loops, and thermal switches.
- Design and assemble fluid, thermal, mechanical, and electrical test rigs, fixtures, and supporting infrastructure.
- Implement instrumentation and data acquisition solutions using sensors, transducers, actuators, PLCs, and embedded controllers.
- Plan and execute component-level thermal vacuum acceptance and qualification testing, including data processing and reporting.
- Diagnose anomalies, resolve hardware issues, and improve equipment reliability to more than 99% uptime.
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of experience applying engineering principles to thermal design, testing, and fabrication in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in detailed thermal analysis with Thermal Desktop and SINDA/FLUINT, plus experience anchoring thermal models to test or flight data.
- Experience planning and executing Thermal Vacuum Chamber testing and familiarity with thermal margins and SMC-S-016 qualification requirements.
- Experience with MATLAB or an equivalent tool for data processing and task automation.
- U.S. person status and authorization to work in the United States are required due to ITAR and export-control requirements.
Nice to have
- Hands-on fabrication skills in basic machining, welding, or rapid prototyping.
- Experience with ANSYS or additional thermal analysis tools.
- Formal project management experience in a fast-paced environment.
