TL;DR
Senior Composites Technician - 2nd Shift (Prepreg Composites Manufacturing): Preparing tooling, laying up composite parts, building vacuum bags, running cure cycles, and finishing aerospace and advanced-manufacturing components with an accent on prepreg processing, mold preparation, and quality-focused production. Focus on solving manufacturing issues, improving processes with engineering, and producing complex composite assemblies across layup, bagging, curing, demolding, trimming, and bonding operations.

Location: Huntington Beach, California, United States; on-site, 2nd shift starting at 2:00 PM

Salary: $34–$40 per hour, plus a $1.50 per-hour shift differential for the entire 2nd shift

What you will do

  • Prepare, sand, polish, seal, release, and maintain molds and other tooling.
  • Lay up prepreg composite parts using templates, dimensions, or projection systems, and install release film, peel ply, breather materials, and thermocouples.
  • Build and install vacuum bags, perform leak tests, and run assigned cure cycles.
  • Demold, trim, bond, and finish cured composite parts and prepare bond lines.
  • Provide engineering feedback on process and design improvements.
  • Document material usage, freeze/thaw status, cure data, and production activities in internal systems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as a technician in prepreg composites manufacturing, including knowledge of intensifiers or caul plates, adhesive films, core splicing, hard points, ply drops, and debulking.
  • Ability to read and interpret layup books and follow process-control work instructions.
  • Proficiency with calipers, scales, tape measures, torque wrenches, hand drills, and other measuring and assembly tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, teamwork, attention to detail, and commitment to production quality.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work hands-on in a production environment.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements: U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with both in-autoclave and out-of-autoclave manufacturing.
  • Experience working with ceramics.
  • Experience with ply cutting, mold finishing and releasing, mold maintenance, lamination, bagging, curing, demolding, trimming, and finishing.
  • Experience with vacuum infusion, compression or hot-press molding, trapped rubber molding, or wet layup.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends when required by customer timelines.
