TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Electronics Packaging (Spacecraft Electronics): Designing and qualifying avionics electronics enclosures, housings, brackets, and structural assemblies for spacecraft with an accent on mass optimization, thermal performance, and launch-load survivability. Focus on structural dynamics and thermal analysis, GD&T-driven precision design, rapid 3D-printed prototyping, and integration testing in demanding space environments.

Location: Hybrid work near Long Beach, California or Denver, Colorado; some work must be performed onsite.

Base salary: $140,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for space superiority and security.

What you will do

  • Own the mechanical design and development of avionics electronics enclosures, housings, brackets, and structural assemblies for spacecraft systems.
  • Optimize mass using topology optimization, advanced materials, and design-for-manufacture principles while maintaining structural margins.
  • Collaborate with avionics, EPS, and payload electrical engineers on PCB mounting, connector access, harness routing, and thermal interfaces.
  • Apply GD&T and create engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, analysis reports, test plans, and fabrication documentation.
  • Perform or support conductive and radiative thermal analysis, modal analysis, random vibration analysis, and shock analysis using FEA tools.
  • Build rapid 3D-printed prototypes and support integration, environmental testing, and mechanical troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in precision mechanical design for aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics.
  • Expertise in electronics enclosure or chassis design, including structural, thermal, and mass optimization.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools; NX or SolidWorks preferred, with experience creating detailed drawings using GD&T.
  • Experience with structural dynamics and thermal analysis, including FEA tools such as NASTRAN, ANSYS, or equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. government authorizations under ITAR.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing space-qualified electronics enclosures for vacuum, thermal cycling, and radiation environments.
  • Familiarity with topology optimization, additive manufacturing, EMI/EMC shielding, and aerospace standards such as GSFC-STD-7000, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461.
  • Experience with aluminum alloys, titanium, carbon fiber composites, and thermal interface materials.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup or similarly dynamic environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work environment with onsite engineering and testing activities.
  • Health, dental, vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO, and paid holidays.
  • 401(k), parental leave, and equity participation.
  • Work focused on autonomous spacecraft, payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors.
