What you will do
- Design structures, mechanisms, launch vehicle transporters, erectors, launchers, spacecraft handling equipment, and ground support tooling under supervision.
- Create 2D and 3D CAD models, perform engineering calculations and numerical analysis, and maintain mechanical schematics and bills of materials.
- Develop and execute test plans for launch pad systems and vehicle interfaces, including test equipment design and maintenance.
- Analyze post-flight and post-test data and collaborate with test and operations teams to keep systems operational.
- Support suppliers, technicians, installation, commissioning, testing, certification, and troubleshooting activities.
- Contribute to project planning and work hands-on during system build phases.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong 3D CAD skills using SolidWorks, SolidEdge, or similar software.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and analysis.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to take a hands-on approach during project build phases.
- For New Zealand roles, background and nationality checks apply because access to ITAR-regulated equipment and data is required; eligibility may depend on citizenship or nationality.
Nice to have
- Experience with hydraulic or pneumatic systems, P&IDs, and system schematics.
- Experience designing and developing test equipment.
- Knowledge of structural analysis and mechanical design principles.
- Previous mechanical engineering or aerospace internship or project experience.
- Hands-on fabrication or prototyping experience.
