TL;DR
Software Engineer (Aerospace): Building flight software, spacecraft and ground systems, simulation frameworks, and mission-control tooling with an accent on real-time hardware interaction, reliability, and hardware/software integration. Focus on designing resource-constrained systems, validating behavior through simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and debugging software during system bring-up and on-orbit operations.

Location: On-site in San Carlos, California, United States

Salary: $100,000–$200,000 annually

Company

hirify.global is a 2024-founded aerospace startup building satellite and ground infrastructure for orbital energy, compute, and high-bandwidth optical data.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain software for spacecraft systems, ground systems, and mission operations.
  • Develop flight software that interfaces directly with hardware and supports real-time control.
  • Build simulation, testing, and hardware-in-the-loop frameworks to validate system behavior before deployment.
  • Integrate, test, and debug systems end-to-end in collaboration with propulsion, power, and avionics engineers.
  • Develop internal tools for testing, automation, and operational workflows.
  • Support system bring-up, launch preparation, and on-orbit debugging and performance optimization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience building production software systems.
  • Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or Rust.
  • Experience working close to hardware, distributed systems, or real-time systems.
  • Solid understanding of operating systems, networking, and concurrency.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR requirements: U.S. citizenship, U.S. lawful permanent residency, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with flight software, embedded systems, robotics, aerospace, autonomous systems, or high-reliability environments.
  • Experience building simulation frameworks or hardware-in-the-loop testing systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems and low-level debugging.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure or distributed systems for mission operations.
  • Experience owning systems end-to-end in high-ownership environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work across the full stack, from hardware interfaces to mission operations.
  • Direct impact on spacecraft and on-orbit performance.
  • Fast hardware/software integration cycles with high ownership and autonomy.
  • Equity, medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus a 401(k) plan.
  • Paid time off, 10 paid holidays, parental leave, relocation assistance if applicable, and daily office lunch.
