TL;DR
Composites Technician - 2nd Shift (Aerospace Manufacturing): Building and finishing composite parts through tooling preparation, layup, vacuum bagging, curing, demolding, trimming, and bonding with an accent on prepreg manufacturing and production quality. Focus on interpreting layup books, performing leak tests and cure cycles, documenting process data, and improving manufacturing processes with engineering.

Location: Huntington Beach, California, United States; on-site, 2nd shift starting at 2:00 PM

Salary: $22–$38 per hour, plus a $1.50 per-hour shift differential for the full shift.

What you will do

  • Prepare, sand, polish, seal, release, and maintain composite tooling and molds.
  • Lay up composite plies using templates, dimensions, and projection systems, including release film, peel ply, breather materials, and thermocouples.
  • Build and install vacuum bags, perform leak tests, and run assigned cure cycles.
  • Demold, trim, bond, and finish cured composite parts and assemblies.
  • Document material usage, freeze/thaw status, cure data, and production activities in internal systems.
  • Identify production issues and provide feedback to engineering on process and design improvements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a technician in prepreg composites manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of intensifiers and caul plates, adhesive films, core splicing, hard points, ply drops, debulking, and related industry practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret layup books and process-control work instructions.
  • Proficiency with calipers, scales, tape measures, torque wrenches, hand drills, and other measuring and assembly tools.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work hands-on in a production environment.
  • Must satisfy ITAR eligibility requirements: U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required authorization.

Nice to have

  • Aerospace or motorsport manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with both in-autoclave and out-of-autoclave manufacturing.
  • Experience operating ply cutters and performing mold finishing, mold maintenance, lamination, bagging, curing, demolding, trimming, or finishing.
  • Experience with vacuum infusion, compression or hot-press molding, trapped rubber molding, or wet layup.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends when required by customer timelines.
