Head of Data Research (AML)

Location: Hybrid, with two days per week in the office

Base salary: 216,000–240,000 RON per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Define the global data research strategy and translate product, market, and regulatory changes into a prioritized roadmap.
• Lead researchers, team leads, and managers while developing leadership capability through mentoring, training, and career planning.
• Own workload planning, capacity forecasting, team KPIs, and reporting on client impact, ARR contribution, and operational efficiency.
• Ensure data-source validation, testing, regulatory compliance, ethical data use, and privacy standards.
• Partner with Data Science, Engineering, Product Management, Compliance, and Regulatory Affairs on platform goals and release plans.
• Support client and prospect conversations, industry representation, and AI adoption across research, automation, and self-service workflows.

Requirements

• Substantial experience leading research or data teams and delivering through managers.
• Experience working with large, complex datasets and incorporating analysis into evidence-based research findings.
• Experience with KPIs, capacity planning, output forecasting, and executive-level reporting.
• Current understanding of AML legislation, global compliance recommendations, and industry practices.
• Strong stakeholder management across product, technology, and commercial functions.
• Relevant university degree in Data Science, Economics, Law, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field; fluency in English required.

Nice to have

• Compliance certification such as ACAMS, ICA, or ACFCS.
• Familiarity with Looker, Power BI, SQL, or Jira.
• Experience applying AI, including agentic approaches, to research, compliance, or data workflows.
• Scale-up experience and industry thought leadership through conferences, publications, or professional forums.
