Staff Data Scientist (NLP)

Location: Hybrid role; must be located in one of the US talent hubs: New York, San Francisco, Seattle, or Miami

Base salary: $191,000–$230,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Improve watchlist data quality, coverage, freshness, and ingestion pipelines.
• Build NLP pipelines for named entity recognition, information extraction, classification, enrichment, and entity resolution.
• Scale real-time name matching, identity classification, risk scoring, and multilingual screening across sanctions, PEP, adverse media, and enforcement data.
• Develop analytics, backtesting, counterfactual analysis, evaluation frameworks, golden datasets, and regression tests for screening systems.
• Build AML risk detection capabilities for payment data, including feature engineering, taxonomies, risk signals, and graph-based analysis.
• Lead technical initiatives, translate research into production systems, and mentor peers across Data Science, Product, and Engineering.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of experience in data science or machine learning, including NLP, entity resolution, or information extraction.
• Production experience with NLP pipelines for entity extraction, named entity recognition, and record linkage at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Python, PyTorch, spaCy, HuggingFace Transformers, SQL, large-scale data pipelines, and production ML systems.
• Experience communicating model-performance tradeoffs to compliance and business audiences.
• Visa sponsorship is not available; candidates must be located in one of the specified US talent hubs.

Nice to have

• Experience in AML, sanctions screening, adverse media, or financial crime detection.
• Experience with multilingual NLP and non-Latin scripts.
• Experience with LLMs and agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph.
