TL;DR
Radio Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, integrating, and testing radio communication systems for commercial human spaceflight modules with an accent on RF link budgets, spectrum coordination, and spacecraft avionics integration. Focus on analyzing radio-frequency interference, leading joint tests with NASA interface hardware, supporting FCC licensing, and resolving complex communication-system issues across suppliers and stakeholders.

Location: Houston, United States. Generally office-based, with inside or outside work depending on the task.

What you will do

  • Design radio communication systems for commercial human spaceflight modules.
  • Calculate RF link budgets, analyze system performance, and perform radio-frequency interference and compatibility assessments.
  • Select and procure radio components and systems with external suppliers.
  • Coordinate integration of communication components with spacecraft, avionics, ground hardware, and software.
  • Design and lead functional, integration, and joint tests with NASA-owned interfacing hardware.
  • Prepare operational plans and procedures, support spectrum coordination and licensing, and communicate progress and risks to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 7 years of experience in radio systems design and testing; space mission experience is preferred.
  • Experience using spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and power supplies.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet, RS232, RS422, RS485, I2C, SPI, and related hardware.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation and provide proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when required to meet critical project milestones.
