Director of Communications (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, United States; in-office five days a week

Salary: $175,000–$220,000 annual starting salary plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Own the public relations function, including press, media, and executive visibility strategy.
• Build relationships with reporters, editors, and outlets covering fintech, payments, and consumer brands.
• Pitch journalists, draft releases, prepare executives, and secure interviews, bylines, panels, and speaking opportunities.
• Plan and execute joint PR announcements for new brand partnerships, coordinating with partner communications teams.
• Align press, product, partnerships, and account management activities so launches land as coherent public moments.
• Manage media lists, briefing materials, coverage reporting, and early responses to reputational risks.

Requirements

• Established relationships with reporters and editors covering fintech, payments, or consumer brands.
• Strong news judgment and the ability to shape company updates into stories reporters want to cover.
• Ability to prepare executives for interviews and develop clear, accurate talking points.
• Excellent writing skills for press releases, statements, talking points, and media materials.
• Experience coordinating joint announcements with partner communications, product, and partnerships teams.
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively to unexpected coverage and reputational issues.
