Export Control Director (Aerospace)

Salary: $204,000–$266,000 annually

What you will do

• Own, build, implement, and continuously improve the company-wide export compliance program and its foundational infrastructure.
• Develop policies, procedures, internal controls, records, reporting, metrics, and audit-readiness processes for export-controlled technology, data, software, hardware, and services.
• Lead ITAR, EAR, and OFAC jurisdiction and classification determinations, export license applications, agreements, exemptions, filings, and regulatory interactions with DDTC, BIS, and OFAC.
• Partner with engineering, manufacturing, software, mission operations, supply chain, People Operations, executives, external counsel, and regulators throughout the product lifecycle.
• Develop Technology Control Plans, access controls, deemed-export reviews, foreign-national access processes, and controls for technical exchanges, demonstrations, travel, and international collaborations.
• Operate sanctions and denied-party screening, conduct assessments and investigations, develop corrective actions, and deliver organization-wide export compliance training.

Requirements

• 8+ years of export compliance experience in aerospace, defense, satellite, manufacturing, government contracting, or another highly regulated technology environment.
• Deep expertise in ITAR and EAR, including export classification, licensing, deemed exports, technical-data controls, foreign-national access, and technology transfer regulations.
• Experience interacting directly with DDTC, BIS, OFAC, and related regulatory agencies.
• Experience building and scaling export compliance programs, managing denied-party and sanctions screening, and conducting audits, investigations, assessments, and corrective actions.
• Strong operational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work with engineers, executives, regulators, and external partners.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents of the United States, protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with satellite, space, launch vehicle, defense, communications, or dual-use technology programs.
• Startup or high-growth experience, including building a compliance program from the ground up.
• Experience with TAAs, MLAs, ITAR Parts 124/125, MTCR, multilateral export control regimes, TCPs, NISPOM, classified programs, or government security requirements.
• EMPCA, ITAR compliance certification, JD, advanced degree, or equivalent export compliance certification.
