TL;DR
Senior Counsel, Head of Government Contracts (Aerospace/Defense): Advising on U.S. government and defense contracts, subcontracts, negotiations, and compliance with an accent on FAR/DFARS requirements, procurement integrity, data rights, cybersecurity, and audits. Focus on managing contract performance issues, developing scalable compliance processes, and balancing risk management with execution speed in commercial space programs.

Location: On-site in Redondo Beach or Washington DC, United States

Salary: $225,000–$260,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits

What you will do

  • Advise on U.S. government contracts and subcontracts, including prime and subcontractor relationships.
  • Review and negotiate government contracts, task orders, defense subcontracts, teaming agreements, CRADAs, and collaboration agreements.
  • Partner with Business Development, Program Management, Finance, and Operations on pursuits, negotiations, execution, and long-term compliance.
  • Provide guidance on FAR/DFARS clauses, cost accounting, audits, data rights, cybersecurity obligations, and procurement integrity.
  • Support contract modifications, claims, disputes, terminations, and performance issues.
  • Build scalable compliance processes, templates, and training while managing outside counsel and consultants as needed.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar membership.
  • 10+ years of government contracts law experience in a law firm and/or in-house.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting aerospace and/or defense programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and government contracting principles.
  • Strong contract drafting, risk-based legal judgment, communication, and senior-stakeholder management skills.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations.

Nice to have

  • Previous law firm experience.
  • Experience supporting defense or national security space programs.
  • Experience advising at both prime contract and subcontract levels.
  • Background in commercial space, launch vehicles, or in-space transportation.
