Manager, R&D Build (Robotics)

Location: Waltham Office, United States; onsite role

Salary: $155,000–$200,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead supervisors responsible for R&D Technical Specialists and Prototype Assembly Technicians.
• Oversee planning and execution of Atlas prototype robot builds across early-stage and repeat-build phases.
• Enable teams to resolve complex integration challenges as designs and requirements evolve.
• Partner with Engineering, Operations, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Program Management on safety, quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Transfer lessons learned into work instructions, documentation, training, tooling, fixturing, and process improvements.
• Mentor supervisors and team members while building capabilities through cross-training and supplier-led training.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant operations or manufacturing experience, including at least 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Experience managing supervisors and multidisciplinary build teams in prototype or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of prototype assembly for complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience balancing early R&D iteration with repeatable build performance.
• Knowledge of process documentation, work instructions, revision control, root cause analysis, and issue escalation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
