TL;DR

Location: Boston, United States; hybrid workplace. U.S. citizenship required due to government contract obligations.

Merlin is a publicly traded aerospace and defense company developing an autonomous pilot system for aircraft from takeoff to touchdown.

What you will do

  • Support quarterly and annual SEC reporting, including 10-Q and 10-K filings, financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A disclosures.
  • Oversee government contract accounting under FAR, DFARS, and CAS, including DCAA audits, incurred cost submissions, forward pricing rate proposals, and EVM reporting.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, indirect cost allocation, overhead rate calculations, revenue recognition, and general ledger integrity.
  • Design and monitor internal controls under the COSO framework and SOX requirements, while improving accounting processes and documentation.
  • Oversee equity compensation accounting, SEC equity disclosures, Section 16 reporting, insider trading compliance, and EPS calculations.
  • Manage payroll oversight, accounting team development, external auditors, and collaboration with program management, contracts, legal, HR, tax, and the CFO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA license in good standing required.
  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA audit processes.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, SOX compliance, and ASC 606 revenue recognition for long-term contracts.
  • Experience with ERP systems; Deltek Costpoint, SAP, or a similar government contracting ERP is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or an MBA.
  • Big Four or national public accounting experience in defense or government contracting.
  • Defense, aerospace, or government contracting experience.
  • Familiarity with EVM and EVMS compliance.
  • Experience with IPOs, secondary offerings, public company transitions, or AI/software development project cost accounting.
