Forward Deployed Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Redwood City, CA; on-site work with frequent customer-site travel, typically 50% of the time. Customer-site assignments involve warehouse conditions, prolonged standing, and walking.

Salary: $130,000–$170,000 per year, plus potential equity, benefits, and other incentives.

What you will do

• Lead new solution introductions, pilot operations, commissioning, and production readiness at customer sites.
• Diagnose incidents using logs, telemetry, SQL/NoSQL data, container metrics, and staging reproductions.
• Improve system performance, reliability, alerting, dashboards, anomaly detection, and observability.
• Develop integrations, robotic skills, diagnostic scripts, CLI tooling, SOPs, runbooks, and self-service documentation.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, third-party partners, customers, and application services teams to resolve issues and harden features.
• Act as the technical point of contact for strategic customer sites and provide guidance during go-live and major upgrades.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in SaaS, DevOps, site reliability, or application support for customer-facing production systems.
• Proficiency in Python or C++ and experience implementing a substantial project or product feature.
• Ability to work hands-on across the full robot stack, from sensors to software, and analyze system-level performance.
• Strong debugging, analytical, communication, and ownership skills, including the ability to create clear bug reports and customer-facing explanations.
• Willingness to work extended hours, on-site assignments, and on-call rotations for high-severity incidents.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting AI/ML inference platforms, model drift, or retraining pipelines.
• System-level troubleshooting across Linux, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud services.
• Experience with message queues, real-time data buses, industrial automation, or warehouse management systems.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, feature-flag rollouts, robot kinematics, or perception pipelines.
