Test Lab Engineer (Hardware)

Location: On-site in Urbana, Illinois, United States; relocation assistance is available for candidates relocating for the position.

Salary: $115,000–$150,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build and maintain lab management systems covering equipment, measurement systems, maintenance, and calibration.
• Design experiments, test plans, fixtures, and detailed appliance and thermal tests for product development and quality assurance.
• Conduct mechanical and electrical tests on cooking appliances and components against internal specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Analyze performance, sensor, and test data using statistical methods and prepare recommendations for product teams.
• Support competitor benchmarking, continuous improvement, project reviews, and result interpretation.
• Prepare accurate technical reports and communicate test results, tradeoffs, and updates to engineers, management, and project teams.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience with test equipment, test procedures, and mechanical or electrical principles.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
• Working knowledge of testing concepts for product and component design and development.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to design experiments that answer specific questions.
• Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Six Sigma knowledge or certification.
• Experience with thermal, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
• Electrical fabrication skills, including soldering, wiring, and custom instrument building.
• Data analysis and visualization experience with spreadsheets, Python, R, or similar tools.
• Experience with AI-assisted tools for data analysis, reporting, or test scaffolding, or in connected consumer products or food-tech.
