Hardware Reliability Engineer (Wearables)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California; up to 15% travel to manufacturing locations and Finland required.

Salary: $172,000–$203,000 annually for Region 1 US locations. Compensation varies by US location, skills, experience, and market conditions.

What you will do

• Plan, document, and execute reliability testing for wearable hardware products and accessories.
• Coordinate reliability testing with contract manufacturers and external test laboratories.
• Develop and improve test methods for evolving wearable technologies and compact electromechanical designs.
• Support failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions with design, quality, and manufacturing teams.
• Build test-to-field correlation, analyze laboratory and field data, and refine test plans based on real-world performance.
• Perform DFMEA and maintain test plans, reports, and documentation throughout product development.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in hardware reliability, validation, or test engineering in consumer electronics, wearables, or small electromechanical systems.
• Experience designing and executing reliability tests, including stress conditions, aging, metrics, and acceptance criteria.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical, environmental, and electrical reliability programs.
• Strong failure analysis, analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Familiarity with reliability standards and methodologies, plus clear written and verbal communication in English.
• Must work in the hybrid San Francisco, California location; candidates residing in Alaska, Delaware, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wisconsin are not considered.

Nice to have

• Experience with wearable or portable consumer devices and compact integrated electronics.
• Experience working with contract manufacturers.
• Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, FRACAS, or similar risk-identification methods.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Reliability Engineering, or a related discipline.
