TL;DR
Senior/ Staff Software Engineer, Motion Planning (Autonomous Vehicles) (C++/robotics): Building and optimizing motion planning and decision-making systems for Level 4 autonomous vehicles with an accent on dynamically feasible, collision-free trajectories and real-time safety. Focus on developing lattice-, sampling-, and optimization-based planners, integrating perception and control constraints, and resolving failure cases in traffic interactions, occlusions, and dynamic obstacles.

Location: Onsite 5 days a week at the Santa Clara, California office

Salary: $180,000–$260,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and optimize the motion planning stack for autonomous vehicles.
  • Develop lattice-based, sampling-based, and optimization-based planners for dynamically feasible, collision-free trajectories.
  • Integrate perception, prediction, and control constraints into context-aware motion plans under uncertainty.
  • Collaborate with behavior planning, control, and mapping teams to improve planning consistency.
  • Optimize and maintain C++ infrastructure for real-time onboard trajectory generation, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Analyze simulation and on-road performance, resolving failures involving traffic interactions, occlusions, and dynamic obstacles.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. with 3+ years or Master’s with 5+ years of experience in robotics, motion planning, or autonomous systems.
  • Deep expertise in at least two of lattice-based planning, trajectory optimization, model predictive control, or search-based planning.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and experience writing production-quality code for real-time or safety-critical systems.
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics, control interfaces, and motion feasibility constraints.
  • Experience with simulation tools and debugging motion planner behavior in realistic driving environments.
  • Strong analytical, system-level debugging, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of diffusion models or Vision-Language-Action models.
