Senior Simulation Engineer (Autonomous Driving)

Location: Los Altos, California, United States; hybrid workplace.

Salary: $180,000–$258,750 per year for California-based roles.

What you will do

• Build visually realistic simulators for testing the full end-to-end autonomy stack, from sensor simulation to motion planning.
• Prototype and integrate internal and third-party simulation platforms for learned system testing.
• Develop scenario curation, data logging, diagnostic tooling, and analysis pipelines for large-scale virtual tests.
• Define simulation entry points, runtime configurations, and closed-loop evaluation metrics with autonomy, ML, and integration teams.
• Lead efforts to improve the reliability of simulation-based validation and bridge simulation with on-vehicle deployment.
• Provide technical mentorship, documentation, presentations, and cross-functional alignment across engineering organizations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or simulation.
• Strong Python and C++ programming skills for robotics or systems development.
• Experience with 3D reconstruction, 3D generation, Unreal Engine, and simulation platforms such as CARLA, Applied Intuition, or Nvidia DriveSim.
• Knowledge of sensor simulation, synthetic data, perception systems, and end-to-end autonomy pipelines.
• Ability to design for autonomy developers and simulation infrastructure stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience validating machine-learning-based autonomy stacks in closed-loop simulation.
• Knowledge of scenario generation, rare-event simulation, counterfactual testing, multi-agent simulation, or high-fidelity 3D environments.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Experience in fast-paced R&D environments bridging research and production.
• Relevant open-source contributions or technical project write-ups.
