Senior Structures Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Los Angeles, United States. Deep work can be done from anywhere, but in-person collaboration is prioritized. Applicants must satisfy U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements.

Salary: $115,000–$185,000 per year, plus stock options.

What you will do

• Design and analyze critical reactor structures, including core restraint systems, control drum mounts, primary heat exchanger vessel supports, and other safety-significant components.
• Perform thermal, mechanical, and structural analyses to define sizing, layouts, operating limits, design margins, and concepts of operation.
• Create calculations, specifications, interface definitions, design reports, and technical justifications for design reviews, verification, and licensing.
• Lead component- and system-level testing, including test articles, fixtures, instrumentation plans, and validation procedures.
• Collaborate with reactor, thermal, manufacturing, licensing, and procurement teams to integrate structural systems into the reactor design.
• Support suppliers, technical evaluations, design reviews, manufacturing issue resolution, qualification, and deployment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Nuclear Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience designing, analyzing, and developing structural systems for demanding engineering applications.
• Experience with hand calculations, material selection, bolted and welded joint design, load paths, and thermo-mechanical trade studies.
• Experience using finite element analysis tools to evaluate stress, deformation, fatigue, and thermal loading.
• Knowledge of structural design principles and the ability to communicate technical concepts across multidisciplinary teams.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. authorizations under export regulations.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Nuclear Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proficiency with ANSYS Mechanical, Abaqus, Nastran, or equivalent FEA software.
• Knowledge of thermal stresses, creep, fatigue, fracture, buckling, corrosion, and high-temperature materials.
• Experience with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, AISC, ACI, AWS, NASA, or comparable standards.
• Experience as a Technical Lead or Responsible Engineer developing safety-critical hardware.
