Senior Nuclear Supplier Quality Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Torrance, California, United States; onsite collaboration is expected. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Salary: $165,000–$225,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Own supplier quality activities for safety-significant, quality-affecting, and nuclear-grade suppliers across reactor components, fuel systems, materials, instrumentation, assemblies, and special processes.
• Lead the Commercial Grade Dedication program, including methodology development, critical characteristics, evaluation plans, sampling strategies, plan approvals, and commercial grade surveys.
• Plan and execute supplier qualification programs, audits, NQA-1 compliance assessments, process capability evaluations, documentation reviews, and qualification records.
• Develop nuclear supplier quality requirements, purchase order quality clauses, NQA-1-aligned flow-down requirements, supplier quality plans, and source inspection criteria.
• Investigate supplier nonconformances, corrective actions, systemic risks, and performance trends using technically defensible and regulatorily traceable methods.
• Support NRC, DOE, NNSA, customer, and external auditor engagements while mentoring Supplier Quality Engineers and strengthening nuclear quality practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of nuclear experience, U.S. Navy Nuclear Propulsion School graduation and 3 years of nuclear experience, or no degree with 10 years of direct nuclear experience.
• Detailed experience with nuclear supplier auditing, qualification, NQA-1 compliance, and supplier quality oversight.
• Working knowledge of nuclear codes and standards, including ASME, AWS, AISC, welding, NDE, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Experience with Commercial Grade Dedication programs, critical characteristics, technical evaluations, sampling, and dedication records.
• Ability to perform root cause and corrective action analysis, process capability evaluation, MSA/Gauge R&R, and supplier performance assessment.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status and legal authorization to work in the United States are required.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• NQA-1 lead auditor, ASQ CQA/CQE, or equivalent certification and nuclear lead audit leadership experience.
• Experience with HTGR, SMR, microreactor, TRISO fuel, graphite, refractory materials, or advanced nuclear supply chains.
• Experience with NRC inspections, DOE or NNSA oversight, ASME Section IX, NDE qualifications, and nuclear-grade material certifications.
• Technical leadership or mentoring experience in a nuclear or safety-significant environment.
