Patient Access Specialist - Decatur Full Time

Location: Onsite at HSHS-St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, Illinois; Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Salary: $17.00–$18.15 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Perform admitting and pre-registration duties for hospital patients.
• Assign accurate medical record numbers, process physician orders, collect demographic and insurance information, and provide patient instructions.
• Verify insurance eligibility, select plan codes, enter benefit data, and support point-of-service collections and clean claim processes.
• Explain consent, Medicare, Tricare, observation, and other patient forms; obtain required signatures and distribute documentation.
• Conduct medical necessity screenings, including Advanced Beneficiary Notice processing for Medicare patients.
• Operate the telephone switchboard, audit patient accounts, correct errors, and report statistical data to Patient Access leadership.

Requirements

• Must be able to work onsite at HSHS-St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.
• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of customer service experience.
• Inquisitiveness and openness to innovation, including AI, to improve processes and patient and client experiences.
• CRCR certification required within six months of hire; certification is company-paid.
