Autonomy Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Boston or remote; hybrid workplace

hirify.global is a publicly traded aerospace and defense company developing the Merlin Pilot, a full-stack autonomy system for aircraft.

What you will do

• Develop software across the aircraft autonomy stack, from lower-level embedded systems to higher-level autonomy functions.
• Implement and integrate algorithms for perception, reasoning, decision-making, planning, and execution.
• Collaborate with domain leads on architecture, requirements, and capability design.
• Contribute to simulation, system integration, and flight-test activities.
• Write, test, document, and review code according to development standards.
• Help develop certifiable autonomous systems for commercial and defense aviation.

Requirements

• Degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, robotics, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of experience with a bachelor's degree or 2 years with a master's degree developing software for robotic or autonomous systems.
• Experience with Linux and open-source development tools.
• Experience across the product development cycle, including system-level and component-level design, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Python and C++.
• Experience with ROS, DDS, or similar robotics middleware, plus strong problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Autonomy software experience for aircraft, drones, or other high-integrity systems.
• Experience with state machines, behavior trees, task planning, route, path, or trajectory planning.
• Experience with perception systems, sensor fusion, world modeling, multi-agent collaboration, or human-machine interfaces.
• Experience with autonomous-platform integration, simulation, flight testing, and hardware-software debugging.
• Pilot license and flight experience.
