TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer, Robotics (Open Position) (Robotics/Mechanical Systems): Designing and developing mechanical systems for next-generation articulated and humanoid robots with an accent on CAD, mechatronic integration, prototyping, and manufacturing. Focus on designing moving mechanisms, validating structural and kinematic performance, and transitioning robotic hardware from prototypes to real-world production fleets.

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid workplace

What you will do

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for robotic products, including next-generation articulated and humanoid robots.
  • Create CAD models, assemblies, 2D drawings, and engineering documentation for sheet metal and machined parts.
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, software, and product teams on integrated robotic systems.
  • Support actuator, transmission, sensor, structural, and motion-system design.
  • Build, test, and iterate prototypes while conducting structural, thermal, kinematic, and tolerance analyses.
  • Improve reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost efficiency while supporting the transition from prototype to production with suppliers and manufacturing partners.

Requirements

  • Background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience developing electromechanical products or robotic systems.
  • Experience designing moving mechanisms with gears, racks, linear motion guides, belts, and gearboxes.
  • Practical experience creating 2D drawings for sheet metal and machined parts.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, NX, or equivalent.
  • Professional proficiency in English and Japanese is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with robotics, automation systems, manipulators, motion systems, mobile robots, AMRs, or AGVs.
  • Experience in warehouse, logistics, retail, service, industrial, automotive, aerospace, or other complex electromechanical products.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, prototype development, and production scaling.
