TL;DR
Flight Software Engineer III (Embedded) (C/C++/Python): Developing and testing flight software for spacecraft computers and space missions with an accent on low-level firmware, GNC integration, and safety-critical embedded systems. Focus on designing device drivers and protocol libraries, building HITL/SITL simulators, and leading command sequencing and technical reviews.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California, United States

Base salary: $115,000–$190,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead design, development, integration, and testing of flight software for spacecraft computers.
  • Integrate GNC algorithms with flight software and maintain the Command Telemetry Database for testing and missions.
  • Develop command scripts, sequencing systems, subsystem model simulators, device drivers, interfaces, and communications protocol libraries.
  • Collaborate with the ground C2 software team and contribute to architecture decisions and technical trade studies.
  • Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers on flight software practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 4–7 years of experience in low-level firmware architecture, design, and development, including device drivers and safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS such as RTLinux or Azure RTOS.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python; familiarity with Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS422, RS485, UDP, and TCP/IP.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance and meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to work onsite near Denver, CO or Long Beach, CA.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree and 4–7 years of flight software experience in space applications.
  • Experience with version control, CI/CD, embedded Linux, microcontrollers, application processors, and embedded development tools.
  • Experience with debugging instrumentation, robotics, automation, motor control, sensor fusion, or mentoring technical teams.
