TL;DR
Flight Software Engineer II (Embedded): Developing, integrating, and testing low-level flight software for spacecraft computers with an accent on device drivers, embedded RTOS, communications protocols, and GNC algorithm integration. Focus on building safety-critical flight systems, designing HITL/SITL spacecraft simulators, and supporting command, telemetry, and mission sequencing.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California, United States

Salary: $90,000–$155,000 base salary per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test flight software for spacecraft computers and processing units.
  • Integrate GNC algorithms with flight software and collaborate with the ground C2 software team.
  • Define and maintain command and telemetry databases for testing and mission operations.
  • Develop spacecraft command scripts, sequencing, subsystem model simulators, device drivers, interfaces, and communications protocol libraries.
  • Participate in code reviews and flight software architecture discussions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in low-level firmware architecture, design, and development.
  • Experience with low-level device drivers and safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS such as RTLinux or Azure RTOS, plus familiarity with Ethernet, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS422, RS485, UDP, and TCP/IP.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and at least one of Rust, Zig, or Python.
  • Must be able to maintain or obtain TS/SCI clearance and meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility for required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
  • 2–4 years of flight software development or production experience for space applications.
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration and delivery, embedded Linux, microcontrollers, application processors, and embedded development tools.
  • Debugging experience using oscilloscopes and protocol analyzers.
  • Experience with robotics, automation, motor control, or sensor fusion.
