Location: Los Angeles, United States. Applicants must meet U.S. Government export-control requirements: U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations.
Salary: $120,000–$160,000 per year, plus equity. Firmware Engineer I: $120,000–$135,000; Firmware Engineer II: $135,000–$160,000.

is a Series C startup developing inherently safe, deployable microreactors for terrestrial, underwater, and space applications.
What you will do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for reactor instrumentation, control, monitoring, and electrical support systems.
- Develop embedded C/C++ software for microcontrollers, embedded processors, and real-time hardware platforms.
- Bring up new hardware, debug board-level issues, and validate firmware with laboratory equipment.
- Implement sensor acquisition, actuator control, telemetry, diagnostics, fault detection, and system health monitoring.
- Integrate firmware with sensors, actuators, custom electronics, communication buses, control algorithms, and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
- Drive failure analysis, safe-state and fault-handling logic, verification plans, documentation, and root-cause investigations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2+ years of production software development experience in C, C++, Python, Rust, or similar languages for hardware-integrated, embedded, robotics, aerospace, automotive, industrial, or mission-critical systems.
- Experience with multithreaded or multiprocess systems, IPC, networking, message passing, or publish/subscribe architectures.
- Experience integrating software with sensors, controllers, DAQs, power supplies, embedded systems, or other hardware-facing interfaces.
- Strong software, hardware, and system-integration debugging skills, including state-machine, interface, data-model, and testable-behavior design.
- Must satisfy U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements.
Nice to have
- Experience with real-time systems, RTOS, bare-metal firmware, safety-critical embedded software, or regulated environments.
- Experience with hardware bring-up, board-level debugging, firmware validation, sensors, actuators, power electronics, control systems, data acquisition, or telemetry.
- Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop testing, automated test frameworks, simulation, continuous integration, bootloaders, device drivers, firmware updates, and embedded communication stacks.
- Knowledge of safety-critical standards such as DO-178C, DO-254, IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or DOE nuclear standards.
- Master’s degree in a related technical field and experience with formal design reviews, hazard analyses, verification plans, or qualification documentation.
