Senior Biomedical Scientist

Location: Hybrid role based in the UK, with one day per week on-site at a London clinic and additional site attendance for critical incidents, audits, training, or operational support

What you will do

• Take senior professional responsibility for biochemistry and haematology laboratory services across two clinic-based laboratories.
• Monitor Abbott Alinity and Sysmex XN-550 analysers remotely, troubleshoot errors, and escalate complex technical issues.
• Lead assay, analyser, and service verification and validation activities.
• Train, supervise, and mentor Biomedical Scientists, providing remote operational oversight.
• Own quality outputs, including SOPs, IQC, EQA, incidents, non-conformances, document control, and audits.
• Monitor turnaround times and KPIs, manage service continuity and stock, collaborate with clinical, engineering, and external provider teams, and support laboratory expansion across UK cities.

Requirements

• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist and evidence of ongoing CPD.
• At least five years of post-registration experience in biochemistry.
• Advanced knowledge of automated analysers, IQC and EQA interpretation, and complex investigations.
• Hands-on experience operating Abbott Alinity analysers.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 15189 and UKAS standards, including audits, SOP management, and non-conformance handling.
• Experience supervising, training, and mentoring staff, with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience operating Sysmex XN-550 analysers.
