TL;DR
Firmware Simulation Engineer (C/C++): Developing high-fidelity virtual platforms and hardware models to accelerate SSD firmware development with an accent on QEMU-based simulation, PCIe/NVMe interfaces, and NAND media behaviors. Focus on designing instrumentation and CI/CD pipelines, analyzing simulated failures, and validating firmware against ASIC RTL before physical silicon is available.

Location: Onsite in Santa Clara, California, United States

Annual base salary: $180,000–$270,000 USD

Company

hirify.global develops high-performance, highly available data storage products for mission-critical applications.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity firmware simulation environments, including QEMU-based virtual platforms, to enable shift-left testing and reduce reliance on physical hardware.
  • Create hardware models for controller logic, PCIe and NVMe communication interfaces, and NAND media behaviors in DirectFlash SSD modules.
  • Design instrumentation tools for performance profiling and failure analysis in simulated environments.
  • Automate CI/CD integration for simulation and virtual platforms across firmware release and validation processes.
  • Partner with ASIC vendors to validate firmware behavior against RTL and digital logic designs before physical silicon is available.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling high-fidelity simulation software for embedded, firmware, or hardware-software systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ and Python for firmware and modeling development.
  • Extensive experience with simulation or emulation tools and methodologies such as QEMU, SystemC, TLM, or instruction-set simulators.
  • Deep understanding of firmware-hardware interaction, including translating schematics and data sheets into abstract software models.
  • Strong knowledge of PCIe and NVMe, plus experience with embedded software, SoC bring-up, and RTOS.
  • Must be willing and able to work onsite in an open-office and team environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Innovation-focused environment that encourages critical thinking and challenging technical work.
  • Support for professional growth and meaningful contributions.
  • Collaborative, low-ego team culture.
  • Flexible time off, wellness resources, and company-sponsored team events.
  • Potential eligibility for incentive pay and/or equity.
