TL;DR
Flight Software Architect (Aerospace): Architecting robust real-time, safety-critical flight software for autonomous space vehicles with an accent on embedded systems, fault tolerance, and mission requirements. Focus on designing command-and-control architectures, integrating and verifying software through Hardware-in-the-Loop testing, and releasing reliable flight solutions.

Location: Houston, Texas, United States; generally office-based

What you will do

  • Define architectures for robust real-time, safety-critical flight software systems.
  • Translate mission requirements into software requirements, architectures, and designs.
  • Oversee fault-tolerant software for autonomous spacecraft command and control.
  • Lead software integration, unit testing, Hardware-in-the-Loop validation, and release of embedded solutions.
  • Lead technical documentation covering architecture, design, and verification plans.
  • Communicate project status and risks while applying agile project management throughout the lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in mission-critical software development, preferably in aerospace.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and supporting flight-control systems or systems of similar complexity.
  • Experience across real-time embedded-system design, development, integration, verification, qualification, and release.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded architectures, bare-metal and RTOS-based systems, C/C++, Rust, TCP/IP, and UDP.
  • Must complete a U.S. government background investigation and provide proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spacecraft, launch-vehicle, UAV, or avionics flight software.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft communications protocols.
  • Experience supporting aerospace or defense programs.
