Senior Project Forester

Location: Remote; projects focused on Appalachian and Southeastern US forest ecosystems, with regular travel to project sites

Salary: $115,000–$125,000 per year

What you will do

• Design reforestation projects using carbon modeling, site ecology, disturbance history, and species selection.
• Collaborate with carbon scientists to develop monitoring, reporting, and verification approaches using remote sensing and field inventories.
• Lead field execution, including site reconnaissance, planting oversight, forest monitoring, and post-establishment surveys.
• Coordinate and supervise planting crews, site preparation contractors, conservation partners, and natural-resource personnel.
• Conduct GIS analysis and due diligence for new project opportunities and implementation planning.
• Develop implementation standards and technical reports covering project progress, costs, and ecological impacts.

Requirements

• 5+ years of applied experience in forest management, carbon projects, or ecological research across field and analytical settings.
• Strong quantitative and geospatial skills, including proficiency in R, Python, or equivalent tools and hands-on GIS experience.
• Experience managing contractors and delivering multiple projects within budget and timeline constraints.
• Advanced degree in forestry, forest ecology, natural resource management, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Knowledge of Appalachian and Southeastern US forests, native hardwood and conifer ecology, disturbance dynamics, and site-level silviculture.
• Ability to communicate scientific information clearly to field crews, investors, agencies, and other stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with forest carbon accounting, FIA data, remote-sensing quantification, or growth and yield modeling.
• Drone operation and data collection for forest monitoring or site assessment.
• Experience with mine land reclamation, invasive species management, or post-disturbance reforestation.
