TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer, Spacecraft Simulation (Aerospace): Building high-fidelity multi-physics simulation software for spacecraft subsystems and constellation modeling with an accent on coupled physics, numerical solvers, and performance-oriented C++ development. Focus on designing real-time and faster-than-real-time simulation architectures, validating physics-based models against test or flight data, and shaping APIs and system architecture.

Location: Hybrid role based near Denver, Colorado or Long Beach, California, with some work required onsite. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. technology export authorizations.

Salary: $140,000–$215,000 base salary per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for space security and defense.

What you will do

  • Design and implement high-fidelity multi-physics simulations for spacecraft subsystems, including rigid-body dynamics, thermal systems, attitude control, propulsion, power, sensors, and actuators.
  • Develop coupled-physics algorithms and time-stepping, solver, and integration architectures for real-time and faster-than-real-time simulation.
  • Build and maintain robust C++ and Python APIs for mission planning, GNC, and systems engineering users.
  • Make architectural decisions, conduct code reviews, and document APIs through examples and user guides.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, technical risk assessment, hiring, and candidate evaluation.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of professional software development experience focused on simulation, scientific computing, or aerospace applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, physics, applied mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in modern C++ including STL, templates, and performance optimization, plus Python for API design, scripting, and data analysis.
  • Domain knowledge in at least one of ADCS, GNC, thermal control, electric power systems, chemical or electric propulsion, orbital mechanics, or HIL/SIL systems.
  • Experience defining and executing verification and validation plans for physics-based models, including uncertainty quantification and validation against test or flight data.
  • U.S. citizenship or another qualifying status for DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance and ITAR authorization is required.

Nice to have

  • Numerical methods experience with ODE/DAE solvers, numerical linear algebra, sparse matrices, or automatic differentiation.
  • Knowledge of coordinate frames, quaternion mathematics, and orbital mechanics.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD, CMake or Bazel, testing frameworks, parallel computing, Docker, or cloud platforms.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or software-in-the-loop testing connected to flight software or embedded hardware.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work environment with a combination of onsite and remote work.
  • Health, dental, vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO, and paid holidays.
  • 401(k), parental leave, and equity participation.
  • Work on spacecraft, mission software, and autonomous systems for space defense.
