Field Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Remote (United States); willingness to travel domestically and internationally for field deployments up to 50%, sometimes on short notice.

What you will do

• Deploy to customer sites, test ranges, and demonstration locations to install, configure, operate, and commission Tightbeam optical terminals and Spacetime/SATCOM systems.
• Lead site surveys, optical alignment, mechanical assembly, installation, and integration across terrestrial, airborne, shipborne, and satellite communications deployments.
• Integrate terminals into customer networks and troubleshoot issues spanning optical subsystems, RF/transceivers, mechanical mounts, and network interfaces.
• Monitor demonstrations and test events, collect and interpret performance data, and support equipment teardown and post-event reporting.
• Perform basic Linux administration, including package installation, software updates, dependency identification, and first-level debugging.
• Collaborate with R&D, Solutions Architects, and Mission Engineers; provide customer training, documentation, and pre-sales technical demonstrations.

Requirements

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for field deployments up to 50%, sometimes on short notice.
• Hands-on comfort with mechanical hardware and mechanisms, plus familiarity with RF and optical communications and transceiver fundamentals.
• Willingness and aptitude to learn optical fiber termination and handling.
• Familiarity with Ethernet, TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, and integrating terminals into customer networks.
• Comfort with Linux administration, engineering-level debug interfaces, and basic technical troubleshooting.
• Strong communication skills and an independent, proactive problem-solving approach for challenging field environments.

Nice to have

• Experience configuring SATCOM terminals, free-space optical or laser communications systems, RF wireless systems, or high-speed photonics deployments.
• Knowledge of optical alignment, beam propagation, atmospheric effects, and optical test equipment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software, optical, electrical/communications engineering, physics, photonics, or a related discipline.
• Active U.S. Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, satellite communications, or telecommunications.
