Lead Economist (Housing Economics)

Location: New York City, United States; on-site with in-person office attendance 4–5 days per week

Salary: $150,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Build hirify.global’s economics research and market insights function using proprietary housing data.
• Develop original research, benchmarks, and narratives that establish authority in rental housing.
• Define and amplify the company’s voice on housing economics across media, events, research, and customer channels.
• Partner with marketing to create high-impact content for customers and the broader market.
• Collaborate with product and data teams to understand product data, build reliable pipelines, and create scalable reporting.
• Expand research through partnerships with publications and academic institutions, while supporting employer branding.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in insights, data journalism, analytics, economic research, or strategy and operations, with quantitative work delivered to external audiences.
• Exceptional ability to turn complex findings into clear, compelling narratives.
• Confidence presenting findings to executives, clients, or media.
• Strong technical skills with SQL, Python, Hex, and modern data stack tools.
• Curiosity about housing and the data explaining the industry.
• Quantitative degree or equivalent practical experience, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
