Health Economist (Digital Health)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco; required to work in the office 3 days per week for a full typical business day.

Salary: $137,600–$206,400 annual base salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and execute rigorous claims-based ROI and health economics studies.
• Coordinate vendors for data acquisition and transform claims data using SQL and Python.
• Apply advanced econometric methods to evaluate healthcare costs, outcomes, and savings.
• Present findings to internal stakeholders and external clients, including health plan analysts and actuaries.
• Define health economics endpoints and measurement strategies for clinical studies.
• Own the research agenda for an MSK condition or product line and publish or present findings.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in health economics, health services research, epidemiology, or a related quantitative field.
• 3–5 years of experience applying econometric methods to healthcare cost questions.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience with commercial, Medicare, or Medicaid claims databases.
• Fluent programming skills in R, SQL, and/or Python for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and visualization.
• Understanding of medical billing practices and health insurance structures.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• PhD in health economics or health services research.
• Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar cloud data platforms.
• Peer-reviewed publications or conference presentation experience.
• Experience in digital health or MSK care, value-based care models, or population health analytics.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot.
