Senior Health Economist (Digital Health)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid with office attendance 3 days per week

Salary: $169,600–$254,400 annual base salary, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Set the health economics research strategy and prioritize studies supporting commercial growth and competitive differentiation.
• Lead ROI, cost-effectiveness, budget impact, and other health economics studies across chronic MSK, surgical replacement, and pelvic health products.
• Present defensible analyses to health plan executives, actuaries, and other external clients.
• Build scalable analytics infrastructure, including automated claims data pipelines in Databricks.
• Publish high-impact manuscripts in journals such as JAMA and Health Affairs.
• Advise product leadership and senior executives on economic opportunities, value-based contracting, and payer partnerships.

Requirements

• PhD in health economics, health services research, or a related field strongly preferred; a master's degree with exceptional applied experience may be considered.
• 6–10 years of experience designing and conducting health economics studies using advanced econometric methods.
• 6–10 years of experience working with large-scale commercial, Medicare, or Medicaid claims databases, including medical billing and CPT/ICD coding.
• Expert programming skills in R, SQL, and/or Python, with experience building reproducible, scalable analytical pipelines.
• Publication record with first-author papers in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
• 3+ years of experience with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar cloud data platforms, plus experience mentoring analysts or economists and presenting to senior clients.

Nice to have

• Expertise in digital health or MSK care, including virtual care, wearable technology, and value-based contracting.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot.
