Lead Data Engineer

Location: New York, NY; work from the NYC SoHo office at least four days a week

Salary: $170K–$220K per year, plus benefits, signing bonus, and equity

hirify.global is modernizing U.S. B2B card payments infrastructure for commercial fleets through a fleet and fuel card built on a digital spend management platform.

What you will do

• Lead the design and implementation of hirify.global’s data ecosystem, from third-party data acquisition and infrastructure architecture to data products, BI, and exploration tools.
• Establish data engineering best practices covering source control, change management, database migrations, statistical reasoning, and AI-enabled data access.
• Build guardrails for self-serve data use and help product engineering teams develop domain-driven data products.
• Improve ETL/ELT patterns from landing zones through semantic layers and ensure metrics use consistent, curated data.
• Oversee connected SaaS data systems, infrastructure budgeting, cost allocation, tokenization, access controls, retention, and backups.
• Lead a small, high-leverage data engineering team while balancing platform evolution with the needs of a rapidly growing startup.

Requirements

• 7–10+ years of hands-on experience across modern ETL/ELT, orchestration, data warehouses, columnar stores, BI tools, and SQL optimization.
• Software engineering mindset with experience in infrastructure as code, testing, modularity, automation, CI/CD, and observability.
• Proficiency in Python for data platform contributions to product engineering code and internal tooling.
• Experience working with product engineers and business users, including designing and delivering solutions independently.
• Strong ownership, continuous improvement, technical research, solution design, and responsible change management skills.
• Ability to work from the NYC SoHo office at least four days per week.
