Embedded Software Engineering Intern (IoT)

Location: On-site at the Toronto office, 24 Ward Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Hourly rate: CAD 29.75–39.00

hirify.global develops on-orbit connectivity solutions, including commercial optical data relay satellites, satellite communications, on-orbit compute, and hosted payload capabilities.

What you will do

• Design and develop software for next-generation satellite on-board systems, embedded Linux space and ground systems, firmware, drivers, and IoT modules.
• Write thorough tests and technical documentation.
• Participate in software design reviews and code reviews.
• Work with electrical, digital design, and operations teams to define features and establish system architecture.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience working with embedded systems.
• Current enrollment in a Computer Science or equivalent post-secondary degree program, with a requirement to return to studies after the internship.
• Availability for a full-time, four-month internship beginning in January 2027.
• Strong software design and development skills, including algorithms, testing, and debugging.
• Proficiency in C/C++, experience with embedded operating systems and build systems such as OpenEmbedded/Yocto and FreeRTOS, and experience with embedded Linux.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to use Git effectively; willingness to use AI-assisted engineering and development tools.

Nice to have

• Relevant hobby or university design team experience.
• Python development experience.
• Knowledge of computer networking and modern networking protocols.
• Experience with RTL, Verilog or VHDL, embedded SoCs, and hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
