Software Engineer – Satellite Modeling and Tasking (Python/C++/Rust): Building automation, mission planning, and satellite coordination software for coordinated radar imaging satellites with an accent on spacecraft maneuver control, asynchronous data streams, and operational scheduling. Focus on precise orbit determination, physics-based satellite modeling, autonomous decision systems, and optimizing imagery opportunities across satellite swarms.

Location: Redwood City, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $150,000–$300,000 per year, with flexible salary and equity compensation mixes.

Company

hirify.global builds coordinated radar satellite systems for real-time, high-resolution 3D Earth observation supporting disaster response, infrastructure resilience, and geopolitical intelligence.

What you will do

  • Build automation for spacecraft and ground stations operating coordinated imaging satellite swarms.
  • Implement controllers for satellite maneuvers, including orbit corrections and station-keeping.
  • Develop mission planning software integrating mission design, operational concepts, and flight hardware requirements.
  • Design systems for asynchronous data streams, real-time decisions, schedule generation, and schedule uploads.
  • Develop orbit determination algorithms and models for satellite propulsion, power, navigation, timing, tracking, and related system requirements.
  • Optimize imaging schedules based on priorities and satellite system capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, plus 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience developing autonomous systems and integrating them into operational frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or Rust.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, continuous integration, and automated testing pipelines.
  • Familiarity with databases, CRUD operations, RESTful APIs, and physics-based or model-based engineering tools.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR requirements: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of precision orbit determination, satellite dynamics, attitude control, and station-keeping maneuvers.
  • Familiarity with FreeFlyer, STK, GMAT, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with flight software, embedded systems, and hardware-in-the-loop test benches.
  • Experience with satellite mission operations or Ground Station as a Service providers.
  • Background in geospatial, remote sensing, 3D data, digital signal processing, SAR, optical imagery, or LiDAR point clouds.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match and commuter benefits.
  • Flexible balance between salary and equity-based compensation.
  • Collaborative work across hardware engineering, software, and aerospace.
  • Culture focused on technical expertise, curiosity, collaboration, trust, and impactful engineering.

Hiring process

  • Interviews are conducted via Google Meet.
  • An on-site visit may be included.
  • The typical process takes approximately 3–5 weeks.
