Principal DSP Firmware Engineer

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Salary: $107,000–$157,000 annual base salary, plus restricted stock units and quarterly bonus payments.

What you will do

• Define firmware requirements with Marketing and assess the feasibility and limitations of proposed product features.
• Collaborate with hardware designers and test engineers on firmware architecture and detailed design specifications.
• Implement DSP algorithms, firmware functions, and hardware drivers for SoC-based timing and synchronization solutions.
• Create integration test plans, unit tests, and automated regression scripts.
• Perform system integration, debugging, root-cause analysis, and resolution of critical technical issues.
• Develop firmware development and debugging tools and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 6 years of experience in DSP algorithm development, embedded software development, or both.
• Extensive C/C++ programming experience.
• Experience with unit testing, Python or TCL scripting, embedded processors or DSP architectures, and RTOS.
• Knowledge of embedded firmware, hardware/software interaction, debugging, and laboratory equipment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with architecture, validation, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• Strong theoretical knowledge of digital signal processing algorithms and analysis.
• Experience with low-level embedded software development, verification, SoC development, and system integration.
• Knowledge of timing standards and familiarity with Agile methodologies.
• Experience with Jira, Git, or Confluence.
