TL;DR
Process Engineer (Solid Rocket Motors): Developing and improving manufacturing processes for solid rocket motors and energetic materials across development, scale-up, qualification, and production with an accent on process controls, safety, quality, and reliability. Focus on reducing waste, variability, and cycle time, analyzing process data, and preparing production documentation in a regulated defense and aerospace environment.

Location: Onsite in Pueblo, Colorado, United States. Travel up to 15% within the continental United States.

Salary: $90,000–$115,000 USD annually, excluding benefits and bonus or incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for solid rocket motors and energetic materials.
  • Support the full process lifecycle from early development and feasibility through scale-up, qualification, production readiness, and full production.
  • Define process controls, qualification criteria, tooling, procedures, and production documentation.
  • Apply structured problem-solving to reduce waste, process variability, defects, and cycle time.
  • Collect, analyze, and report process metrics including yield, defect rates, and cycle time.
  • Prepare SOPs, work instructions, process specifications, technical reports, and presentations while collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Safety, Compliance, senior engineers, and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Materials Science, or a related engineering discipline with 3 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a relevant master’s degree with 1 year of experience or 7 years of hands-on experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience supporting process development and scale-up from early development through production qualification.
  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methods such as 8D, fishbone, and 5-Why.
  • Ability to analyze process data, solve complex problems independently, and communicate technical concepts through production documentation.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Pueblo, Colorado, meet applicable explosives-license and background-investigation requirements, and satisfy U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with energetic materials, solid rocket motor propellant chemistry, or hazardous manufacturing environments.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Familiarity with DFARS, ITAR, or other defense-related manufacturing compliance frameworks.
