TL;DR
Storage Systems Engineer (NFS/Distributed Storage): Designing and optimizing NFS, distributed file systems, and object storage for high-performance data platforms with an accent on kernel-level and user-space I/O, storage media, and high-speed networking. Focus on diagnosing cross-layer performance bottlenecks, improving resiliency under real-world load, and building Python tooling for observability and testing.

Location: Remote - California; hybrid work format

What you will do

  • Design, build, and optimize features across NFS and storage systems.
  • Diagnose bottlenecks across file systems, storage media, networking, and I/O paths.
  • Improve performance, scalability, and resiliency in distributed storage environments.
  • Work across kernel-space and user-space I/O components to solve complex systems problems.
  • Collaborate across storage, systems, and platform engineering layers.
  • Develop Python tooling and automation for observability, testing, debugging, and operations.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with Network File Systems (NFS).
  • Deep understanding of distributed file systems and experience with object storage.
  • Production experience with Kubernetes.
  • Strong Python skills.
  • Experience with kernel-level and/or user-space I/O stacks.
  • Familiarity with NVMe, SSDs, RDMA, and high-speed networking, plus the ability to debug complex performance and reliability issues across system layers.
