Staff Distributed Systems Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Onsite at the office in Santa Clara, California, United States. Travel up to 15% domestically or internationally. Employment may require verification of U.S. Person status or authorization under U.S. export-control and government-contract restrictions.

Salary: $187,944–$246,068 base annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and ship production backend services in Go and/or Rust.
• Build high-throughput telemetry ingestion pipelines using gNMI, NETCONF, and SNMP for large device fleets.
• Develop RESTful and gRPC APIs, real-time processing engines, and time-series storage layers.
• Build Kafka or Kinesis event-streaming pipelines and design partitioning and archival strategies.
• Own reliability through on-call participation, incident response, post-mortems, metrics, tracing, and structured logging.
• Deploy containerized services on Kubernetes with Terraform across AWS, GCP, and Azure, while leading reviews and mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience delivering production services at scale.
• Hands-on production proficiency in Go and/or Rust.
• Experience with distributed data systems, event streaming, time-series databases, and high-throughput ingestion pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of consistency models, failure modes, backpressure, idempotency, and message-processing semantics.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, at least one major cloud provider, SQL, relational and time-series data models, CI/CD, testing, and on-call operations.
• Ability to drive technical decisions and influence engineering direction across multiple teams.

Nice to have

• Network telemetry, YANG data modeling, network management, or network equipment vendor experience.
• Graph databases or graph data models for network topology.
• Multi-tenant SaaS backend development, open-source infrastructure or networking contributions, or technical writing on distributed systems.
• Experience with regulated or security-conscious environments such as FedRAMP or NIST.
